This story of a love triangle set in the 1950s is based on an autobiographical novel that was awarded the Women’s Literature Prize in 1963. Not only is the story told in masterfully crafted pictures, but it also features a strong, true-to-life female protagonist, a thing that is rarely seen even in contemporary Japanese cinema.
