Gagaku is the most ancient form of Japanese music and was included in the representative UNESCO list of immaterial cultural world heritage in 2009. Its beginnings reach back to the 5th century B.C. Gagaku comprises instrumental ensemble music as well as singing and dancing. While still performed in Japan at the Imperial court and at festivals, it is virtually unknown outside of the country. At NIPPON CONNECTION, the Gagaku Ensemble from Cologne will introduce you to this fascinating music with a concert and a workshop.
