Sakuko should be learning for her university admission exams, but decides to accompany her aunt to a rural town by the sea. The characters she meets there all have to fight their own, more or less grave problems. This film proves that bittersweet summer comedies in the vein of Eric Rohmer can be flawlessly transplanted to Japanese shores.
Director biography
Koji FUKADA, born in 1980, made his feature film debut with THE CHAIR in 2004. One year later, he joined the theater troupe Seinendan. His films HUMAN COMEDY IN TOKYO (2009) and HOSPITALITÉ (2010) were screened to much acclaim at various international film festivals and have won numerous awards.
