Subtitling is more than mere translation. Subtitling is a unique verbal art that requires both accuracy and creativity, all while working within formal rules and physical limitations to tell the story. A translator and writer, David Nist shares with you the challenge and excitement of subtitling, Using clips from films and anime, such as Yuya ISHII’s THE GREAT PASSAGE, ATTACK ON TITAN, Hayao MIYAZAKI’s SPIRITED AWAY, and Hiroshi SUGAWARA’s FIREFLIES: RIVER OF LIGHT. You can try your hand at subtitling too, as audience participation is highly encouraged.

In cooperation with the Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy (JVTA).
