The unusual Nakasone family owns the small and cozy, if somewhat run-down, Hotel Hibiscus with only one room for rent. One summer, after her older sister and brother have left to begin new lives, little Mieko embarks on a magical journey to her cultural roots.

Director biography
Born in Kyoto in 1960, Yuji NAKAE studied agriculture and later moved to Okinawa. He realized a number of independent films during his studies and made several television documentaries and music videos.
